Full details on the 2012 Buick Regal GS available now

The Americans from General Motors released full details on the 2012 Buick Regal GS including the engine range, performance and fuel economy figures. The new Buick Regal GS will be marketed in the U.S. starting this fall while the pricing will be available somewhere this summer, before the official debut.

According to the officials, the new Regal GS comes with a direct-injected 2.0-liter unit able to deliver 270 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque at 2,400 rpm. The four-cylinder turbocharged unit is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6,7 seconds while it comes coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The estimated fuel economy of the 2.0-liter unit which fits the new Regal GS on the highway is 8,4 liters/100 km. Besides the manual transmission, General Motors claims that a new six-speed automatic transmission will enter the range later next year. The 2.0-liter engine comes with a five-year, 100,000-mile warranty for the entire powertrain.

"The Regal GS 2.0L turbo delivers the highest specific output of any production engine GM has ever offered, and at 135 hp per liter is the most power dense engine ever certified by SAE," said Mike Anderson, Ecotec global chief engineer and program manager.

The new Buick Regal GS will offer a high performance four-wheel-independent suspension with High Performance Strut (HiPerStrut) front suspension design. The innovative suspension is able to minimize the unwanted toe and camber effects in certain conditions which will help the vehicle to get better stability and grip. The Computer Damping Control technology is available as well, a system that fits both the front and rear dampers and provides real time adjustments for the suspension providing the optimum ride comfort.

In order to ensure the needed safety, the American model features a high performance braking system including four-piston Brembo front calipers. A four-channel anti-lock brake system comes to improve the braking system while the StabiliTrak electronic system is standard.

"The 2012 Regal GS is well balanced with dynamic ride and handling, powerful brakes, great acceleration and excellent fuel economy," said Robert Casparian, Regal product marketing manager. "And the fact that one can get such great performance in a gorgeous sport sedan makes it even more attractive."

Mazda debuts CX-9 front-wheel drive version in Australia

The South Koreans from Mazda officially announced that they are ready to introduce a new version of the seven-seater CX-9 in Australia. We talk about a model that benefits from a front-wheel drive system, a good alternative for the all-wheel drive model, as least in theory.

The new front-wheel drive Mazda CX-9 SUV will be available with two trim packages, Classic and Luxury, but we will discuss them after we analyze the engine range available in Australia. Under the bonnet, the same powerplant is retained, we talk about a 3.7-liter unit able to deliver 274 horsepower and 367 Nm of torque.

The front-wheel drive CX-9 manages to get an improved fuel consumption by 0,2 liters/100km. This means that the South Korean SUV provides a fuel consumption of 11 liters/100 km. In standard, all the Mazda CX-9 models, either the trim level, come with safety systems such as Roll Stability Control (RSC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Parking sensors alongside a reversing camera are standard features of the new CX-9 too making the parking maneuvers easier.

The first trim level designed for the front-wheel drive version of the Mazda CX-9 in Australia is called Classic and brings power windows and side mirrors, three-zone climate control, cruise control, automatic headlamps, leather trim for the steering wheel and gearshift knob but also a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Mazda CX-9 with the Classic trim level comes at a price of AU$44,425 (US$46,731) while all the versions of the South Korean SUV benefiting from a front-wheel drive system seem to be slightly cheaper than the all-wheel drive variants. If you want more from the SUV, then you can opt for the Luxury package which is priced at AU$51,725 (US$54,518) which brings significantly increased comfort.

To be more precise, you will benefit from power adjustable leather seats, a ten-speaker Bose premium audio system, heated power side mirrors, a tilt glass sunroof but also a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels.

VW Polo Sport Coupe—Giugiaro Scirocco Reborn?

VW's little Polo series isn't sold in the USA, but might be one day. I've taken the GTI 4-seat hatchback and recreated it in the mold of the original Scirocco of 1975, designed by the maestro, Giorgetto Giugiaro. For my Polo Sport Coupe, I've reduced seating to just two, and given the rear a large luggage area. With a hybrid or plug-in drivetrain, this little VW could compete with Honda's CRZ. The rocker panel retro striping/lettering would be optional, but oh so cool, lol! I started this chop last year, but decided to finally finish it last night.

Honda held the world premiere of a prototype of Honda BRIO, the new small-sized vehicle developed for Asian markets and scheduled to be introduced in Thailand and India in 2011, at the 27th Thailand International Motor Expo starting November 30, 2010.

Honda BRIO Prototype is being developed with Honda's advanced technologies, while further advancing Honda's "man maximum, machine minimum" concept. Being developed as a commuter which is easy-to-use even in urban areas, the Honda BRIO prototype adopts an easy-to-handle compact body (length 3,610mm x width 1,680mm x height 1,475 mm) while ensuring enough cabin space achieved by highly efficient packaging. With this vehicle, Honda thoroughly pursued the creation of an advanced exterior form, which is compact while asserting a strong presence.

For the mass-production model, which will be an entry-level car, for which demand is increasing in newly emerging nations, Honda will develop unique versions for Thailand and India to reflect different customer needs in those markets. Moreover, with this vehicle, Honda will leverage the resources Honda has cultivated through its motorcycle business and utilize local sourcing of parts and materials such as sheet steel.

For the Thai model that is scheduled to be introduced in March 2011, the fuel economy of more than 5 liters/100km will be targeted so that the vehicle will qualify as an eco-car by the Thai government, and a starting price of approximately 400,000 baht will be targeted as well. For the Indian model that is scheduled to be introduced within 2011, local customer needs for a small car will be reflected and local content will be increased to create a model that achieves a good balance between vehicle performance and price.

"Honda would like to expand the joy of mobility to more customers in Thailand, India and other Asian countries through the introduction of a new small vehicle with compact and highly efficient packaging by utilizing our own experiences cultivated by motorcycle business here in Asia," said Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle RS, a creation by VWVortex

Interesting things happen when tuning companies get early access to new production models and the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle RS is definitely one of them.

VWVortex are the creators of this wheeled mongrel and I suppose they aimed it at the never-ending list of people who say the Porsche 911 is nothing more than a hotted up Volkswagen Beetle.

With inspiration coming from what many consider to be the best 911 yet, the track focused 2011 GT3 RS.

Mind you, the only similarities at hand are to be found within the appearance because the cheap and trendy car that the modern Volkswagen Beetle is can’t hold a candle to its upclass brother in terms of performance.

Underneath the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle RS you’ll find the familiar powertrain technology of the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder and the 2.0 liter TSI turbocharged gasoline units with diesel duties covered by a 2.0 liter TDI Clean Diesel.

That means that you can’t get any more than 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque which go towards the front wheels via a six speed manual gearbox or a fabulous dual-clutch DSG automatic.

After all, for the price the Germans are asking for the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle you can’t demand that much more than you’re already getting.

VWVortex fitted the new Beetle with a set of VMR710 20 inch alloys. Technically speaking this big a difference in wheel sizes forced the tuners to add an offset of 35 in order to maintain functionality.

The new wheels are covered in equally impressive Continental ExtremeContact DW 245-35ZR20 tires. Helping the additions stay on without too much stress on the chassis, VWVortex added a full H&R suspension setup.

Since they redid most of the stuff that’s connected to the wheels, VWVortex also gave the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle RS a new set of brakes as well.

They come from Brembo and they are labeled as a Stage II brake kit. The new brakes are made up of 14″ front two-piece cross drilled rotors, four-piston radial mount calipers, aluminum mounting brackets and stainless braided lines and pads.

In keeping with the tradition of the Beetle looking up to better brothers for technology, we’re told that the new suspension they fitted on the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle with what is standard for the 2011 VW Golf GTI Mark VI.

All of this seemingly hardcore components basically do very little to help the driver enjoy it more, but the true point of the RS version of the 2012 VW Beetle was to help image.

This is where the orange wheels, orange sticker that’s a lot like on the 911 GT3 RS and the rear spoiler of the same nature.

BMW’s Four Door Coupe seen through patent drawings

After admitting disappointment in the failure of the BMW 5 Series GT the Bavarians have now decided to stick to more market friendly new models.

With the help of some leaking information from the patent offices BMW used for their upcoming four door coupe we can now predict how it will look.

Apart from subjective views on how this actually is going to be the best looking four door coupe around there’s quite a lot to be learned from the patent drawings.

This car will be based on the recently launched 2012 BMW 6 Series and it will have quite a lot in common with the aforementioned creation.

Actually, early descriptions of what could be the production version of the BMW Gran Coupe Concept is not that much more than a four door version of the F12/F13 6 Series.

That can be thrown both ways by fans but the fact of the matter is that we are going to be dealing with a considerable improvement in terms of luxury and space over what already is a great car in both these aspects.

Top that with how the production BMW four door coupe will receive the same engines as the F12/F13 6 Series with a slight chance of tune ups being done.

What it means to the final buyer is that they will get their chance at what are some of the best engines in the world being either a 3 liter inline six cylinder or a 4.4 liter turbocharged V8.

With some chance at having a diesel option thrown in, you will basically be seeing a BMW four door coupe that has between 320 and around 410 horsepower.

Now, we’re not certain about how legal or acceptable this leakage from the patent offices is, but you have to admit, knowing that BMW is making a rival for the Mercedes CLS and the Audi A7 is pretty exciting.

Another part of the excitement is the remaining mystery is how despite sharing a front end, rear end, engine lineup and a few other bits and pieces, we’re not sure the Bavarians will be making these two cars share a name.

Speculations have been made for the four door coupe being called simply the BMW Gran Coupe with more sensible versions being the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe or the BMW 6 Series GT.

Hyundai releases pricing on the Blue Link infotainment system

The South Korean people from Hyundai released full details on the new Blue Link infotainment system alongside pricing. The new in-car system is scheduled to officially debut with the 2012 Sonata and three-door Veloster this year while starting 2013, almost all the model adopting the Blue Link system which offers more features than you thought.

To be more precise, Hyundai announced that the Blue Link platform offer more than 30 unique features including connectivity and safety services. It comes with three packages, namely Assurance, Essentials and Guidance, starting at $79 and topping with $279.

The entry-level version, Blue Link Assurance, comes with Automatic Collision Notification and Assistance which provides assistance when an accident occurs. This system will warn the response center that an accident happened, a voice communication being immediately established in order to collect critical information about the accident and inform the emergency services.

The Enhanced Roadside Assistance feature provides an easier communication with the Roadside Assistance by pressing a single button. Of course, this system is useful when the vehicle encounters problems and you need to contact the special services in this regard. SOS Emergency Assistance is another handy system which let you contact the emergency services by pressing a single dedicated button. After you press the button, information about the vehicle such as its location will be automatically transmitted to the specialists.

The more expensive Essentials package provides extra features such as Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Remote Vehicle Start and Remote Horn and Lights, systems that can be more easily accessed by a mobile phone application or owner’s website. Quick Tips and Voice Text Messaging are other driver assistance features that will provide details and tips about the location of the vehicle but also will enable hands-free text messaging using the Agent-Assisted Voice Recognition. Few hours after releasing these details, the South Koreans announced that the Blue Link system earned two distinctions, “Best Cloud-Based In-Car Application" and "Industry Newcomer".

"Blue Link combines safety, service and infotainment into a complete package that works to both help simplify Hyundai owners' lives and reduce distracted driving," said Barry Ratzlaff, director of customer satisfaction and service business development, Hyundai Motor America.

A few details emerge on the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

2012 is getting off to quite the start in terms of muscle car appearances because General Motors just confirmed the additions they’ll be making to the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The ZL1 moniker was always going to be the hardcore version of the car but you can’t truly expect a revolution to happen since it is still a Chevrolet Camaro.

That’s not saying the 2012 ZL1 isn’t going to be interesting, quite the contrary, but it will be limited by its market placement more than you’d imagine.

The information at hand came to the public via GM spokesman Al Oppenheiser who, at the time, was speaking at an owners' event in Oshawa, Ontario just last weekend.

It seems that the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 will be available with six speed transmissions regardless of manual or automatic operation. This would return that a new automatic was added to the option list and speculation hints towards both of them being borrowed from the Cadillac CTS-V.

Not a bad recipe for sending all the power this hardcore Camaro’s V8 will be sending towards the rear wheels. No news on the engine have appeared but as far as we can recall 2011 Chicago Auto Show it will be something to shout about.

Power for the hottest Chevrolet Camaro of 2012 will be delivered by GM's 6.2 liter supercharged LSA V8 engine. Official figures are still pending but early estimates would place it at around 550 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque.

Even if given the new automatic transmission a potential owner may have quite a lot going on in trying to handle this sort of power output. Happily though, General Motors covered that aspect as well.

From the same convention and from the same man actually, we got word on how the Chevrolet Camaro traction control system will be upgraded for ZL1 duties.

Not to something new by design, but to something from GM’s stable that has proven itself capable at a more difficult job. The Performance Traction Management system found on the Corvette ZR1 will find a home within the hottest version of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro and that simply makes way for yet more waves of speculation.

Will the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 get the same traction control functionality of the Performance Traction Management system or will it just get the basics.

Zenvo ST-1 gets a special 50S limited edition

It’s not like the Danish at Zenvo have ever produced hundreds of thousands of their ST-1 supercar but still it’s getting a special limited edition.

The “new” car will be also called the 50S and it has come to life being the result of the coming together of Red Sea Distribution and Zenvo.

The two have been partners for quite some time since Red Sea Distribution is the exclusive North American Distributor of Zenvo vehicles but this special edition is a form of “feedback” from the U.S. market.

Exclusivity is interesting and all, but the special edition Zenvo ST-1 50S takes everything to a new level. Just three units will be made, all in different colors and they will all be aimed at the American market.

The three assigned colors are called Intense Red, Crystal White and Mediterranean Blue. Further distinguishing these road going Danish monsters will be a set of magnesium wheels, monogrammed seats and a special numbered plaque that makes things obvious.

An interesting “accessory” that comes with the Zenvo ST-1 50S is a specially made Swiss watch from Aspen. It may seem like a pointless small gesture, but that watch has a retail market value of $49.000.

That’s a lot of money but it’s nothing compared to the 1.800.000 USD asking price of the entire car.

So assuming the Danish and their U.S. distributor haven’t lost their mind on this one, you may be wondering what the Zenvo ST-1 50S has to offer in return for a price that is dangerously close to the 2 million dollar mark.

Underneath the stunning presence, the idea of a Danish supercar and the bling factor of such a price, the Zenvo ST-1 50S comes with the same supercharged 7.0 liter V8 engine as the “regular” car.

In the limited edition however, that immense engine is re-programmed to produce no less than 1250 horsepower and 1106 lb-ft of torque. These mind boggling figures are 150 horses and 52 torques more than before.

Teamed with a low weight of the car and the Zenvo ST-1 50S will be getting from 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds and achieves a top speed figure that is even more impressive.

According to Red Sea Distribution, the special edition car will be electronically limited to a top speed of 233 mph or 375 km/h. The power to weight seems to be on track with challenging the likes of the Bugatti Veyron and the SSC Ultimate Aero so the limited top speed is most likely due to the very high speed stability.

The new Volkswagen Beetle has been introduced in mid-April while the US pricing just few days ago. Today, the Germans from Volkswagen decided to release details on the Pre-Order Program for the new Beetle alongside the limited edition of the model, Black Turbo Launch Edition to be more precise.

The new VW Beetle is scheduled to hit the showrooms this fall but you can pre-order one of the 600 limited units right now by paying a $495 reservation fee. The new VW Beetle Black Turbo Edition comes with a price of $25,720 which includes the $770 delivery charge.

With this been said, we can get into the technical details of the Beetle Black Turbo Edition, a model which comes with a 2.0-liter TSI unit. The four-cylinder gasoline engine produces 200 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque being coupled to a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As you can see, the special edition brings nothing new in terms of engines, the 2.0-liter 200-horsepower unit being available in the standard engine range too. The interior benefits from a special treatment too, features such as the eight-speaker RCD 310 sound system, ambient lighting, alloy pedals but Bluetooth and iPod connectivity being available.

According to Volkswagen, the customers that choose the Vehicle Pre-Order Program will benefit from an easy ordering process while the reservation process seems to be quite simple. The potential buyers have to enter the webpage dedicated to the pre-order program and enter their zip code alongside their preferred dealer for retail delivery. As mentioned above, a $495 reservation fee that goes towards the final purchase is needed in order to complete the process.
