The current Chevrolet Camaro is scheduled to enter the British market early next year, the first details regarding the engine range and pricing being revealed by the American manufacturer today. It seems that the best-selling sports car in the U.S. is once again in the spotlight, only few days ago the Americans revealing the new “Transformers Special Edition” which comes to celebrate the third “Transformers” movie, called “Dark of the Moon”.
Today, we got the first details on the UK pricing and specs of the 2012 Camaro, the American model following to hit the British showrooms in the first months of 2012.
The British customers will be able to get the coupe variant at a starting price of £34,995 while the convertible model has a starting price of almost £40,000. Under the bonnet, the American model designed for the UK customers will get the 6.2-liter V8 unit able to deliver 432 horsepower, together with a manual transmission. This setup is available for both coupe and convertible variants while GM announced that the model will be available only in left-hand drive, a detail which is not exactly what the customers are glad to hear.
If we compare the U.S. base price of the Chevrolet Camaro with the starting price of the UK model we will see that there is a pretty big gap, the model dedicated to the American market being even £20,000 cheaper. However, Chevrolet claims that the UK-spec Camaro gets a revised suspension specially developed for Europe while an additional automatic gearbox can be ordered for another £1,500.
Other features of the American model include 20-inch alloy wheels, high-performance Brembo braking system and rear parking sensors while inside you will get a leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity and 9-speaker Boston Acoustics audio system. If you are looking forward for more comfort, you can take a look at the optional list which includes new interior trim, a sunroof, new exterior finishes, body stripes and new alloy wheels designs. Of course, all this extra stuff will cost you in addition increasing even more the gap compared to the U.S. model.
Rikk 02 Jul, 2011The Australians don’t agree entirely with the average U.S. car buyer but they do have some considerably important common opinions.
One of which, at least that’s what GM is hoping for, is the increased market interest for the Chevrolet Colorado pickup.
As a result of this belief, GM is going to rebadge the Chevrolet Colorado as a Holden and unveil it once again in “the Land Down Under”.
A 2011 Australian International Motor Show presence of this GM product would most likely spark a similar amount of interest to what’s been going on in the States or even in South America when the Rally Concept version came out.
That interest would, in turn, help GM with their decision about which markets they are going to bring this handsome brute to the people, which, at the end of the day is what a general audience seems to want.
Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mike Devereux says that the Holden Colorado pickup is going to be their big star at the Melbourne show this year and that’s great from a sales point of view.
Australia’s light commercial/pickup 4×4 segment is up by 11% this year so cashing in with a new model round at this time is pretty much the best thing to do.
Round at this time is a bit of an understatement as the first production spec Holden Colorado units will hit the Australian pickup market no earlier than 2012.
At this very moment Holden is a bit preoccupied with their Commondore’s new engine. If you’re not very aware of Holden’s range you should know that the Commondore is their most important cash cow so it gets priority over pretty much everything.
No worries pickup fans, this is because the new engine Holden is readying for the Commondore will also find a home in the new Colorado as well.
The engine in question is a new V6 and it is in good stead with the eco-minded motorists because the most important part of its description is flex fuel capable.
Capable of running on pump gas and E85 the popular 3.6 litre SIDI V6 engine will be introduced to the Colorado and Commondore as the Ecoline variant. The flex-fuel components are crucial for future developments of the Aussie version of the Chevrolet Colorado.
This is because they pave the way to LPG conversions and that is a very cheap in Australia thanks to the immense availability of this fuel from local production.
Lupica G. 01 Jul, 2011With the R18 TDI winning the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race, the Germans at Audi clocked up 10 total victories at the famed French event.
A state of general pride and joy went spiraling through most of the VW family. The only possible exception being the step sister company Porsche.
Porsche hold several motorsport records, among which they are the most successful team at Le Mans, having taken in 16 wins.
Audi’s success seems like a way for them to loose this distinction, one of the most sought after in racing. This is why Porsche came up with a totally captivating announcement about their return to serious endurance racing.
The relaunch of the Porsche endurance team is scheduled for 2014. That means that in just three years the performance levels will be crying out of Porsche in order to produce a successor to the 911 GT1.
Porsche’s 911 GT1 was the last in a long line of serious assaults on the “heavy weight” title at Le Mans. A lot has changed since then so Porsche’s 911 GT1 successor will have to face some serious difficulties in order to grab that win.
The bullet proof build quality of modern Porsches will have to shine through, that’s an obvious criteria but now there’s a considerable worry about fuel economy properties. That’s why the Porsche 911 GT1′s successor could employ a similar sort of hybrid technology as the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid.
As a quick reminder, the high performance hypercar that was the Porsche Carrera GT was actually supposed to be the 911 GT1′s replacement sadly it never got the chance to race as the GT1 class was put an end to.
This is why Porsche acted quick to prep the Carrera GT for road legal necessities and sell it as a “normal” production car.
It’s more than a decade since the Porsche 911 GT1 huffed and puffed up the Circuit de la Sartre but Porsche’s presence has been consistently winning in the lower tier classes thanks to heated up versions of the 911.
What is very interesting about this announcement of Porsche returning to Le Mans is that Audi doesn’t plan to back down at all. The Ingolstadters revealed that the decision was taken independently by Porsche and therefore doesn’t harm corporate interests, also, Audi welcomes the competition.
This sort of news, teamed with the video above makes a Porsche’s return to Le Mans probably the best motorsport news we heard all year.
