Project Kahn tuners unveiled a new package for the 2012 Range Rover Sport called Vesuvius Edition Sport 300. This tuning kit is at its second generation as the British specialists unveiled the first package around four years ago.

As you probably noticed, the name of the newest tuning proposal for the Range Rover Sport is inspired from the Italian volcano which destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum a long time ago. The new Range Rover Vesuvius Edition Sport 300 brings only styling improvements with no modifications under the bonnet.

However, besides the aesthetic tweaks, Project Kahn fitted a new high-performance suspension along a sport exhaust system. On the other hand, the exterior appearance is improved by a new two-color finish with a matte black color and orange hood, front lip, roof and side skirts.

The British model rides 22-inch Kahn RS aluminum wheels fitted with special tires. The interior is garnished with a new leather upholstery in the same orange and black finishes along a pair of sport seats, aluminum pedals and of course, special Vesuvius logos. The new Vesuvius Edition Sport 300 is priced at £69,875, more details being available on Project Kahn’s official website.

Tata Motors decided to invest around $2,4 billion annually in Jaguar and Land Rover brands as the Indian company bought the two British manufacturers three years ago, in case you missed it. The first quarter for 2011 brought Tata Motors a decrease in sales of 8,5% for the Indian market while their most successful and cheap model, Nano, received a drop of 48% in the last two months of this year.

This situation worried the Indian automaker and influenced the company to invest more in Jaguar and Land Rover as the latter received some significant growth in the past few months.

To be more precise, Land Rover obtained sales increased by 22% in the last four months. This means that they sold 50,000 units while the new Range Rover Evoque has already received around 18,000 orders which will significantly add to the figures.

Tata Motors

"Tata Motors had a pretty flat quarter as far as Jaguar sales are concerned, and Indian passenger vehicles sales went down" said Juergen Maier, a manager at Raiffeisen Capital Management in Vienna. In the next five years, Tata Group plans to develop around 40 new models bearing the Jaguar or Land Rover badge including the C-X75 hybrid supercar and XF Sport Break.

It seems that Volkswagen’s executive and management body have gone all misty eyed about the introduction of the 2012 Beetle that they decided to do more about it.

Not the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle itself but the heritage and memorabilia it brings about. No flower power and stuff like that, but the Camper van.

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Or, at least, the modern day interpretation of what would be the Camper van namely the production version of their VW Bulli.

Even though it’s what sparked interest for VW, the heritage and history isn’t the only reasoning behind finally turning the Volkswagen Bulli into a real car.

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Much like the original VW van, there’s an ambition to capture the mood of the times. Volkswagen wants to genuinely make a heritage lineup and not just a model.

After all, they were the ones who got the ball that lead to the new Mini, the new Fiat 500 and the new Citroen DS lineup rolling so why not set an example?

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Also in keeping with the current times, Volkswagen may end up using the new Bulli to showcase some progress in the world of fuel economy, perhaps with some hybrid technology from the XL1.

If the final decision is made and settled, Volkswagen will most likely make the Bulli’s production version at their Mexican plant and a market release could happen as soon as 2014.

Cadillac’s hunt for new age designed, edgy models seems to rarely stop in concept form so their announcement to make another one a production car is just confirmation of their desire to get back on top.

Well at least that’s what the marketing department would have you believe when speaking about the rumor of how the Cadillac Converj will enter production.

Cadillac Converj Concept

Cadillac Converj Concept

It all sounds nice and it could very well happen but we’ve went down that road of believing General Motors and Cadillac about the production spec Coverj before.

After an original unveiling of the concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show we heard something from GM and its treasured luxury subsidiary something about making the Converj available to the general public.

Cadillac Converj Concept

Cadillac Converj Concept

Shortly after, General Motors, decided not to send it into series production.

The latter announcement came in early 2010, sometime around March more precisely so I’m thinking my skepticism on this new rumor about the production of the Cadillac Converj is almost acceptable.

Anyway, this time Cadillac seems to be more driven about the announcement so it’s no real surprise to see how this time we’re actually getting some details on the innards.

Underneath the pretty coupe body the Cadillac Converj isn’t the hardcore sports car one might imagine. It will actually be a good looking car that’s got fuel efficiency in its list of features.

Cadillac Converj Concept

Cadillac Converj Concept

This is because GM tells us they want to power the Cadillac Converj’s production model with a similar drivetrain that one may find underneath the Chevrolet Volt.

Ideally, we could see the the new Converj roll off the production lines as early as 2013, that is unless sometime next January we don’t get another cancellation.

As a production prone model, BMW’s i8 EV supercar looks like it’s going to be pretty much unchallenged on the production market.

That look may end up being smudged if the British at Jaguar manage to follow through on their plans for the production version of their C-X75 concept.

Jaguar C-X75

Jaguar C-X75

It’s nice to see that there’s some competition even at this very high level of market placement and consumer need focus but in the case of the Jaguar C-X75 and BMW i8, the fight isn’t clean.

They may be some of the finest and most fuel efficient supercars out there but because of the difference of thinking behind their design.

Jaguar C-X75

Jaguar C-X75

Bavaria’s fuel sipping road basher was designed to change the way we think of performance, the sacrifices we need to make in order to have it and so on.

The Jaguar C-X75 on the other hand, was built in order to show off. They still want a performance car but they want to see just how far they can take the concept of electric power.

Jaguar C-X75

Jaguar C-X75

That’s why the British company’s eco-friendly C-X75 can produce 780 horsepower and still go through whatever fuel you put into it fast.

And that’s just to start with, for all we know, Jaguar won’t be making the C-X75 as we know it with gas turbine assistance. In return, the production version could use a less efficient and performing petrol powerplant when off the batteries.

A certain three pointed star company just announced the production approval for a new model called the Mercedes CLC and no, that’s not a missprint.

The Germans are really planning to make a new car, call it the CLC and hope they get down to making some money off it.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept

It seems like at a time when the rivals at Audi are focusing on half-breed crossovers to capture more of the premium car market, Mercedes wants to go with the shooting brake idea.

Between the Mercedes CLC and the not-so-long-ago confirmed Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake it seems like this German high roller plans to push for more of a luxury feel.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept

You see, the shooting break is a luxury and automotive treasure that’s mostly been forgotten. It sits just between the grand tourer coupe and the estate.

This is what the CLS Shooting Brake does, and it’s what the CLC will be doing although as far as the second car is concerned we know very little more than the idea that lead to its life.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept

Mercedes wants to market the CLS Shooting Brake as a more practical proposition and the Mercedes CLC will be a smaller, more fun option.

The design of the CLC is meant to be as youthful as possible and, according to Mercedes boss Dieter Zetsche, it should be treated as the baby-CLS.

The Japanese people from Toyota are about to unveil the plug-in hybrid version of the current Prius, a model which is scheduled to make its first public appearance on September 15, at the Frankfurt AutoShow. The new plug-in hybrid system will increase the all-electric driving range to around 20 km while the vehicle is still able to run like a normal Prius using the standard hybrid setup.

2012 Toyota Prius PHEV

The new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will return a significantly increased fuel economy of 2,2 liters/100 km (106,9 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 49 g/km.

According to the Japanese company, the new Toyota Prius PHEV will go on sale in Europe and few U.S. states starting next year while the nationwide introduction of the new model will happen somewhere in 2013. The new Prius PHEV will need around 90 minutes for a full charge at a 220-volt outlet while the Japanese model requires three hours to recharge from a 110-volt outlet.

“The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid features a newly designed and more compact lithium-ion battery, developed to meet Toyota’s rigorous standards for reliability,” says the Tokio-based company. More details will be available next month after the official debut.

Americans who have heard of it refer to it as a mini-Murano, the Japanese market knows it as a Dualis, and Stephane Schwarz, the design director at Nissan Design Europe thinks of it as an "Urban Nomad", a nickname borne out by the Nissan UK website which refers to it as "urbanproof". Whatever the descriptor, though, "it" is the 2007 Nissan Qashqai, the Japanese carmaker's chief assault weapon against the similarly sized Volkswagen CrossGolf.
Designed in London, built in Sunderland, and named for a nomadic people from southwestern Iran, the Nissan Qashqai, which is offered in European, Asian, and Middle Eastern markets, is perfect example of a compact crossover car. It has the soul of a coupe and the flexibility of a hatchback.
The Nissan Qashqai is featured with a choice of four engines, two gasoline (petrol) and two diesel. The 1.5-litre diesel engine provides 106 horsepower and 240Nm of torque while the 2.0-litre puts out 150 hp and 320Nm of torque. The petrol engines offer 115 horsepower and 160Nm of torque in a 1.6-litre model, or 140hp and 200Nm in the 2.0-litre version. In addition there is an array of gearbox options, including five-speed and six-speed manual, six-speed automatic and CVT. Both the diesel and petrol versions of the 2-litre engine are available with Nissan's all-wheel drive system. Don't let the 4x4 option fool you, however. Despite the fact that the Nissan Qashqai is taller and has more clearance than a true hatchback, the all-wheel drive option is there for additional road safety - this car is meant for street use.
As well as being taller than the average hatchback, the Nissan Qashqai is also about 100mm longer (though it is still roughly 150 mm shorter than most SUV's), and a bit wider, with a wheelbase of 2630mm, and a 1780mm width. These slightly larger dimensions are enhanced by the sporty feel of the interior, which has a raised main console and instrument panels that are deeply recessed.
At the Qashqai's launch event in Paris last September, Nissan's president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said "European customers want it all: dynamic design, driving performance and attractive premium interior." With expected sales of 100,000 Qashqai's in the model's first year, it is clear that Nissan wants the Qashqai to be a cash cow.
There is no information on whether the Nissan Qashqai will ever be offered in the United States.
