Porsche is tired of Ferrari and Lamborghini having their own way. Now that McLaren joined the game with the MP4-12C the Germans feel a disarmed.
Rumor has it that they are now planning on making a new car, one that should compete with the Italian and British heroes while still making financial sense.
That would mean the new Porsche would make a new car that’s faster and more powerful than the already impressive Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
It would mean that Porsche is making a really serious road car, possibly mid-engined, with a price tag somewhere between 250.000 dollars and the $845.000 one would do without in order to buy a Porsche 918 Spyder.
As you’d imagine, Porsche isn’t yet ready to give us any details on something of the likes but there is one slight concern to be seen in this new model’s idea.
The new rumor speaks nothing of a model that’s genuinely faster than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS but just more expensive.
Speculation planes are endless and while I’d love to see a Porsche Carrera GT successor it is more likely that the Germans will make a totally different animal.
I’m thinking something along the lines of the Mercedes SLR McLaren. Incredibly fast in a straight line, decent on the twisty bits and very luxurious.
It could even be the new V8 powered Porsche we’ve been hearing about lately. If that is the case, and my idea turns out to be true, we could be looking at one of the finest yet most controversial cars Porsche ever made.
We’re talking about a possible updated version of the Porsche 968 or even the mighty 959.
Sounds awfully interesting but it would be much more fun if the high performance company actually made a piece of mid-engined exotica that was aimed at speed and nothing more.
Between this “better than the 911 GT2 RS” model, the baby Porsche and the racer they plan to make by 2014 it would seem like VW’s best company won’t have too much spare time on their hands.
Bernhard Maier, Porsche’s sales boss is the man behind the new program and apparently the company is still examining the sort of car that could come out of the process and it’s going to be a tricky situation to sort out.
Apparently the biggest concern of Porsche’s representative isn’t how fast to make the new car it’s just to know how to least affect the image of their iconic 911.
Lupica G. 12 Jul, 2011Peugeot released details and photos of the new 508 RXH, a hybrid model based on the estate variant revealed one year ago. The new diesel-electric hybrid model bearing the RXH badge follows to be revealed later this year at the Frankfurt Auto Show, an event which opens its gates in September.
The French model is quite similar to the 508 SW but features the HYbrid4 drivetrain which consists of a 2.0-liter HDi diesel unit producing 163 horsepower and an electric motor offering 37 horsepower. The diesel turbo unit delivers the power to the front wheels while the electric motor drives the rear wheels. As mentioned above, the model benefits from an all-wheel drive system, the hybrid system offering a total output of 200 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.
According to the official details, the diesel-electric hybrid model returns a fuel consumption of 4,2 liters/100 km (55,9mpg US) while the CO2 emissions stop at 109 g/km. Moreover, the new Peugeot 508 RXH is also able to use only the electric motor which means that you get zero emissions out of the exhaust.
The European market will meet the new 508 RXH in early 2012 and promises to be placed in the world of top-of-the-range all road vehicles, as Peugeot claims. “Diesel-electric hybrid and distinctive high end appeal combine to offer an original view of the world of all-road vehicles and enhanced driving pleasure: the new Peugeot 508 RXH. This demonstrates the modern and enhanced top-of-the-range vision for Peugeot and will be unveiled today in preview. The style of the 508 RXH and its innovative HYbrid4 drive unit provide features allowing it to combine freedom and driving pleasure in a form never seen before in the segment: 200 bhp, Four-wheel drive, ZEV 100% electric mode, Emissions of 109 g/km of CO2,” adds the French company.
As a 2012 model, the new 508 RXH comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, extended wheel arches, chromed roof rails and also a new front bumper including LED lights. Entering the cabin you will find a panoramic glass roof, a satellite navigation system, electric front seats, the Open & Go system but also the head up display. Pricing details are scheduled to be released at the German event this fall.
Rikk 12 Jul, 2011Supercars and all are very interesting, yet we know that the world is actually full of cheap, slow and practical cars so the Nissan Versa is quite the important car.
For quite some time now it was America’s cheapest car and further more, it made for a great milestone as a sub 10.000 dollar car.
With the 2012 model year however, that trait of the Nissan Versa’s personality has disappeared because it now gets a MSRP that starts at 10.990 dollars.
Forget about how that doesn’t even include the destination charge, the costs are, respectable to say the least.
Nissan is still offering the cheapest car on the United States market and it is still a great low cost transport solution.
The new, higher price, is justified however since the basic $11.000 2012 Nissan Versa offers all one needs for decent mobility nowadays.
Sure the drivetrain only offers a 5 speed manual gearbox and a 1.6 liter gasoline engine with just 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque but the rest of the setup is more fun than that.
Standard equipment for the boggo 1.6 S 5MT version includes air conditioning, a 6 way adjustable driver's seat, and a multimedia system with AM/FM/CD/Aux-in audio.
For those of a more luxurious disposition the 2012 Nissan Versa lineup includes a CVT gearbox for the 1.6 liter at a more commendable $12.760.
Further still there’s a 1.6 SV CVT version which spices up the equipment even more in return for a $14.560 price tag with the top of the line model being a more powerful 1.8 liter.
That version of the 2012 Nissan Versa also delivers its power through a CVT gearbox and you’ll need at least $15.560 to get it. Come to think of it, that is still a bargain of a price.
Also in the low cost section is the fuel economy level which, according to the EPA, in the case of the Versa Sedan is set to be 30/38/33 mpg (city/highway/combined) for the CVT transmission and 27/36/30 mpg for the manual cog swap.
Added optional extras come at a bit of a price but they also mean that you can equip a 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan with stuff like Bluetooth/USB/iPod connectivity, XM satellite radio and a touch-screen nav system.
The competition’s lowest priced cars only reach as far as the 13.000 mark. For that sort of cash the Japanese at Nissan will offer you a basic sedan with all the kit you may want.
As for the hatchback’s pricing it’s supposed to turn up later in the month.
