It seems like just before 2012 Buick LaCrosse gets its engine upgrade, a few problems cropped up with it that got GM to a point where will have to recall it.
The problem that lead to this NHTSA pleasing decision isn’t one for every single user but if you’re among the unlucky ones that have had the misfortune of using the Stabilitrak system.
That’s what Buick calls the 2012 LaCrosse’s Electronic Stability Control Systems, basically the computer that keeps your car out of the ditch when you lose grip.
Buick’s system has a problem which is sensor and calibration related and may end up in unneeded operation thus creating quite a problem for the owner.
Apparently, a incorrect calibration is mostly at fault because it can’t properly realize when a sensor is working properly or malfunctioning and sending bogus signals to the command module of the 2012 LaCrosse.
The result leads to accidents of an unusual condition as the ESC system turns on for no reason, causing drivers behind the wheel of the 2012 Buick LaCrosse lose control of the car as it thinks it doesn’t have any.
Surprises like this could lead to considerable accidents but so far, the NHTSA reports that there have been no incidents involving the 2012 Buick LaCrosse or this particular problem.
Buick dealers will be calling in 4.293 2012 LaCrosse models sold in the U.S. and Canada and replacing their Stabilitrak module free of charge by the end of August.
Lupica G. 14 Aug, 2011Nissan’s luxury division, Infinti, plans to release another crossover concept soon, one which previews a seven seater production model.
All we know about it so far is that it’s called the Infiniti JX, when the company plans to release it and that’s about it.
Therefore, it’s no surprise to see how rumor makers have turned their attention to what the Infiniti JX Concept is about and what it will be doing.
Before we get to that less exact sort of news, we should mention that Infiniti’s new JX concept will be unveiled at the at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
That event is scheduled for Sunday August 21 and it’s probably a bit too exclusive for the “commoners” that will eventually be buying the JX.
Have no fear though, a production version of the Infiniti JX will be unveiled just a few months later, in November, at the 2011 Los Angeles Motor Show.
While rumor makers claim that this is not much more than a Nissan Quashqai +2 with a leather gear knob, Infiniti tells us the JX will offer a stunning interior and unprecedented seating flexibility from the seven seater.
Since I’m not getting to the LA Auto Show and my invitation to Pebble Beach must have gotten lost in the mail all I have on the Infiniti JX Concept is these teaser shots and the patience to wait for an official launch next spring.
Lupica G. 14 Aug, 2011If there’s something that never dies in the world of car fan currents, it’s the retro fad and that’s most of the reason why we keep seeing new “launches” that come from the past.
The latest in such a line is (yet) another recreation of the 1965 Ford Mustang that gets a new Shelby badge, a workover by Classic Recreations and quite a lot more.
Once everything is done up, fixed, replaced and upgraded, you obtain something called the Classic Recreations Shelby G.T.350CR which will set you back $119.000.
In case you’re wondering what exactly you’re getting for your money, it’s quite the simple situation: a new, fast car with the convenience of modern performance that retains the style of the car you may have wanted as a kid.
According to Classic Recreations, the base for their Shelby G.T.350CR is an original 1965 or 1966 Mustang which starts off by getting a 7.0 liter V8 engine which can push out 545 horsepower or more if you’re willing to get to the options list.
Slap on a supercharger and you get 645, add an intercooler and there’s 745 or you can go for the bells and whistles twin-turbo job which has around 1000 horsepower on tap.
Naturally, in order to handle this power Classic Recreations adds rack and pinion steering, high-performance disk brakes all around and a coilover suspension.
Final updates come to life as a Tremec gearbox and a limited slip differential which makes the Shelby G.T.350CR handle not just the power but itself quite well.
Lupica G. 14 Aug, 2011The Japanese at Honda are still taking their time in what is the process of unveiling the 2012 Civic’s European version.
On the brighter side however, there’s something in seeing it about for us as well because every time we catch a set of spyshots, the company tells us what’s going on with the development.
Since this is the European version I’m afraid the only considerable details we got on the 2012 Euro Civic refer to the oil burning diesel engine.
Honda tells us it’s still based on the familiar 2.2 liter i-DTEC four-cylinder only it’s been thoroughly updated in order to stay competitive.
Performance wise, the 2012 Honda Civic diesel should have around 150 horsepower and at least 185 pound-feet of torque, which is admirable, but not really the point.
The most important aspect of a diesel is still fuel economy and this is where Honda promises that their 2012 Civic’s European version will see the best of improvements.
Fuel economy of the 2.2 diesel should come around at an overall 15% improvement and CO2 emissions are said to fall down to around 110g/km.
Improvement in design and aerodynamics will also be responsible for the above mentioned improvements as the new Civic’s engine will be able to run smoother and cleaner.
