The British people from Bentley released details on their latest offering for the current Bentley Continental GT. We talk about the Mulliner Styling Pack which comes with few extra accessories for those who consider that a standard Bentley Continental GT is not satisfying exactly all the needs.

Therefore, the British supercar receives the Classic Pack which will bring a carbon fiber body kit in addition to the standard model. To be more precise, you will get new side skirts, a rear diffuser but also a front splitter, all of these improving the appearance.

In terms of pricing, the Classic Pack of the Mulliner Styling accessories comes at a price of £7540, pretty spicy for few carbon fiber components but if you afford a Bentley then there should be no financial effort to get this package. However, if you want more, there are some additional features that can be ordered.

More exactly, Bentley offers a set of new 21-inch alloy wheels, carbon fiber mirror housings, front fender vents and a new carbon fiber rear spoiler. Talking about prices, both the rear spoiler and mirror housings are priced at £2241 each while the new set of alloys will lift you off £5940. The front fender vents are also coming with a spicy price tag being offered for £4762.

If you are looking forward to enhance the appearance of your Continental GT you have to know that the Classic Pack can be ordered right now, the additional features being available later this year. In order to ensure the optimum build quality, the Mulliner Styling Pack will be mounted by factory-trained engineers at certain Bentley dealers.

“Unlike many after-market styling packages, Bentley has subjected the components of the Mulliner Styling Specification to a typically rigorous and comprehensive quality and engineering test and development programme. A series of high performance 'V-Max’ tests and wind tunnel appraisals were undertaken to ensure that the handling and performance credentials of the new Continental GT are not compromised by the addition of the Mulliner Styling Specification,” says Bentley.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 gets restricted at Nurburgring race

Porsche holds a pretty interesting record. The German manufacturer won just about anything and everything and in more numbers than anybody else who ever took place in motorsport.

Of the more than 28.000 victories Porsche scored in the entire history, many come under the belt of their 911 model. The modern 911 is a proud promoter of this.

In fact, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid was a leader in the 24 Hour Race of the Nurburgring comfortably for eight hours before a technical problem put a stop to the proceedings.

Naturally, Porsche is back for more this year, with the 2011 model year of the same car. They now call it the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 and it’s all very web like.

Hoping that this time they will have sorted out the reliability of the model and that the valve springs in the combustion side of the hybrid drivetrain won’t be an issue any more Porsche came to Nurburgring sporting for a fight.

Sadly though, before they even get to the point where the racing drivers, engineers and managers have to worry about fighting off their opponents they have a bit of a problem.

The organizers of the infamous 24 hour endurance race round the Nurburgring decided to place an air intake restrictor on the 4.0 liter flat six cylinder engine.

The “modification” drops the horsepower figure from 480 horsepower to “just” 448 ponies and it is a massive knock down to the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid’s chances.

Despite the updates Porsche made to the 911 GT3 R racer, the weight they shaved off the hybrid system which amounts to 20 percent less than last year, a 32 horsepower loss still hurts.

Both drivers and team owners are not happy with the new air restrictor, especially since it seems to be a pretty hasty decision and not that well funded with actual arguments being available on the spot.

As with the new updates, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 barely managed to qualify in the 18th position for today’s race.

Qualifying with a fast lap is one thing, winning an endurance race, especially a 24 hour event, is a completely different thing.

This would mean that, normally, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 still has a chance at winning at the end of everything.

Considering how the air restrictor would limit the car and force the hybrid’s electric component and the rest of the system to a point where it could lead to a lot of problems on other fronts.

Last unit of Bugatti Veyron was sold

There was a great run for it but we all know what a limited run is. The halo car of our time, the Bugatti Veyron was produced and sold to the last customer yesterday.

Bugatti President Wolfgang Durheimer was on hand to provide all the big words you may expect to see at the funeral of a one of history’s great.

It’s sad to know the last Veyron was sold but let’s not cry our hearts out for Bugatti as they are still exploiting it and will be for some more time.

The first Bugatti Veyron came out in 2003 but thanks to a very slow completely hand built assembly process and the small number of employees there was quite the gap in between that one and the last one.

We don’t know who the owner of the number 300 Bugatti Veyron is but it doesn’t really matter that much. Given how the SS Veyron is still keeping the Molsheim, France plant going.

Only after the limited run of 150 Bugatti Veyron SS units is will the last Veyron actually get made. This is of course, unless there’s gonna be an RS or something version to keep the “limited run” going.

As a quick reminder about the version of the Bugatti Veyron that did get sold as a final unit today, it is regarded as one of the most important cars in history.

The reasoning behind this sort of title is to be found within the extraordinary levels of performance and the record this supercar held.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Powered by a unique 8 liter W16 powerplant that uses a quad turbocharger system in order to develop a magical figure of 1000 horsepower together with a whopping 922 lb-ft of torque.

Helped along by this power, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 simply keep accelerating to a point where it boggles the mind of every motoring journalist and owner out there.

When the timer is rolling, the acceleration from 0 to 62 takes 2.5 seconds despite the kurb weight of the Bugatti Veyron covering most of the 2 tonne margin.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Another part of the Bugatti Veyron’s excellence was the top speed the sold out model could achieve. Tested and proved out on several occasions that figure reached 254 mph and even at that sort of speeds it was stable and undramatic.

Bearing this in mind, it’s probably the last time we hear from Bugatti about something major until the Bugatti Galibier enters production as a Royale or whatever name it winds up with.

Volkswagen reveals the “Temporary Auto Pilot” system

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Leohold, Executive Director Volkswagen Group Research, has presented the Temporary Auto Pilot system at the final presentation of the EU research project HAVEit (Highly Automated Vehicles for Intelligent Transport). With this new driver assist system, the Germans from Volkswagen want to make a step ahead in this regard and provide the latest technology available as soon as possible.

VW Temporary Auto Pilot

Not only automotive brands such as Volvo or BMW are developing advanced safety and driver assist systems, Volkswagen joins the game with their latest creation called Temporary Auto Pilot (TAP). As its name suggest, the system is able to self-control the vehicle under driver’s closely monitoring.

This system is currently under developing but there are big chances to see this driver assistance system on production models quite soon. As expected, VW’s Temporary Auto Pilot will be able to semi-automatically drive the car on the highway at speeds up to 130 km/h. The system will work properly on highway as the crowded cities are a little bit too difficult for any system, at least for now.

Even the new system is available to drive the car temporarily, Dr. Jürgen claims that this is nothing but a new step towards the fully automatic and accident-free driving. The new Temporary Auto Pilot system works quite simple by using systems such as the Lane Assist which keeps the car on its path but also Adaptive Cruise Control which helps the model run uniform.

As this system is not a fully automatic auto pilot, the driver is allowed to override the system if there is needed in order to correct the situations where the system is failing to react. According to the official details, the new Temporary Auto Pilot system is based on production-like sensor platform which means that integrating the system on series models would not be too difficult. More precise, the system uses a laser scanner, electronic horizon, radar, camera and ultrasonic sensors.

“One conceivable scenario for its initial use might be in monotonous driving situations, e.g. in traffic jams or over sections of a driving route that are exceedingly speed-limited,” comments Leohold.
