The Japanese people from Nissan released details on the 2012MY Versa hatchback, a model somehow outdated considering that, for example, the Chinese market enjoys the second-generation of the model, available as a saloon. Even so, the American customers will get some improvements for the 2012 Versa five-door hatchback which include new equipment levels and of course, new pricing.
To begin with, the Japanese company prepared a richer SL level including all the stuff of the Premium Package. Four new packages are now available for the S trim model, the Convenience Package, Navigation Package, 15-inch Aluminum-Alloy Wheel Package and lastly the Special Edition Package which offers all the content of the trim levels above but cuts the costs by $900.
Under the bonnet, Nissan prepared a 1.8-liter engine able to deliver 122 horsepower, a unit that fits both the S and SL models. The Nissan Versa SL is exclusively available with the Xtronic CVT transmission while the S package lets you decide between a four-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
According to the official details, the 2012 Nissan Versa hatchback also gets the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system as standard, only the SL package getting it in the previous model. "We see buyers in this segment as people who are always busy, even while relaxing," explains Castignetti. "With the amount of time they typically spend in their vehicles, we want to make sure they feel good about their purchase long after the new car smell has worn off. So we invested in areas that they see and touch most – like available Fine Vision instrumentation, quality fabrics, bright trim work and comfortable seating for front and rear seat passengers."
The base price of the 2012 Nissan Versa is $15,140 for the 1.8 S model equipped with the six-speed manual transmission while for extra $1,000 you can opt for the same model with the automatic gearbox. The more stylish 2012 Versa SL fitted with the CVT transmission costs $19,150, all the prices including a $760 destination fee.
Rikk 19 Jul, 2011Years after Shelby did the Ultimate Aero, they finally came up with another supercar that offers breakthrough performance levels.
What we have here is the SSC Tuatara and it’s one of only two cars (the other being the Hennessey Venom GT) that can really make the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport fear about losing their title.
The Shelby Supercars Tuatara can aim this high for several reason, the most important of which being the record setting power it can develop for a production car.
Thanks to a twin-turbocharged 7.0 liter V8 engine the SSC Tuatara has 1350 horsepower ready to go with a torque figure that’s still to be verified.
Bugatti may be working on a new supercar that’s supposed to be faster than the Veyron SS but for now this is the highest horsepower figure available straight from the factory.
Getting back to the Tuatara, its was conceived from the outset to become the fastest supercar out there and its design is inspired by a lizard which lives in New Zealand. Apparently, the American car got some of the looks from the lizard and it borrowed the name as well.
Design inspiration for the SSC Tuatara is actually even more intimate with the aforementioned lizard than that. As it happens, the Tuatara reptile has the fastest evolving molecular structure (DNA) of any creature on Earth. Also, in the native language of Maori, Tuatara means peaked back, something the SSC car also has.
Considering the heritage, as well as Shelby’s claims, the new supercar is a world away in terms of evolution from the Ultimate Aero.
That remains to be proven, both in top speed figures and other forms of testing as well as in a full release of specifications.
All we know so far is that the Tuatara uses a body that’s only made out of carbon fiber, that mighty engine, rear wheel drive only and one of two gearboxes.
A transmission choice is offered between a seven speed manual gearbox and an SMG Paddle Shift sequential automatic transmission with the same number of cogs.
The new name seems to have sufficient roots to be on a supercar but Shelby Supercars should have included just a little bit more on what this new creation of theirs can do.
Since the goal is to beat the top speed of the Veyron SS which stands at 258 mph, we can safely assume that a figure of around 260 is to be seen but what about the rest of the good stuff?

Lupica G. 19 Jul, 2011After a considerable period of absence and quite some time since they originally promised us this, BMW is going to return to the DTM series. With that in mind, we now have a preview of what their new racer will look like.
Predictably, this Bavarian track monster is based on the E92 BMW M3 Coupe, it is powered by the 4.0 liter V8 engine and it meets the German series’ regulations.
Saying that may be true, but it certainly doesn’t do justice to the amount of work BMW’s finest of engineers put into this car and, even though I’ll try, I’m not sure I can either.
The E92 BMW M3 has been with us for 4 years and for most of that time it’s also been raced in just about every important competition out there.
In this iteration it will be competing in one of the most understated yet most important racing series out there. This is why that familiar 4.0 liter V8 engine now develops 480 horsepower.
This is also why that BMW M Division V8 is hooked up to a six speed sequential gearbox, get from 0 to 62 in just 3 seconds and keep on pushing to a top speed of 186 mph.
Figures like these are decently achievable to some of the road-going supercars. Unlike these cars, the BMW M3 DTM Concept can corner at very impressive speed and have a greatly improved stability.
Those latter bonuses come from the incredible downforce that sleek looking aerodynamics package can produce.
I know this is officially slated as a concept, but trust me on this; if history’s thought us about BMW is that from final concept stage to actual car (racer or production) the differences are minimal.
We know what the car can do in theory, but in practice, it’s going to be up to racing drivers Andy Priaulx (British) and Augusto Farfus (Brazilian) to show us what the BMW M3 DTM can do starting with the 2012 DTM season.
From the press release and BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen it’s quite a lot. What I particularly loved about the latter’s intervention is that he made a very heart warming point about this 2012 BMW M3 DTM Concept.
It was built to give BMW their “coming home” in terms of racing and it’s also meant to fight off their premium segment competitors in other environments than the less brutal road legal war.
