Nuova Stratos

Torino, 14 luglio 2011 – A seguito delle notizie diffuse da alcuni blog specializzati, Pininfarina precisa di non avere alcuna parte nella presunta produzione di una serie limitata della Nuova Stratos.

Il ruolo di Pininfarina si è limitato alla progettazione e alla costruzione di un esemplare unico per il cliente Michael Stoschek senza alcun impegno ad allargare la collaborazione a volumi produttivi più consistenti.
Pininfarina è molto soddisfatta del lavoro svolto sulla Nuova Stratos, che ha suscitato un enorme e meritato apprezzamento da parte della stampa internazionale, ed è lieta di aver contribuito a realizzare il sogno di Mr. Stoschek. L'Azienda è tuttavia estranea a quanto comunicato da Mr. Stoschek attraverso il sito della Nuova Stratos.

Porsche reports increased sales with Cayenne as best seller

The Stuttgart-based company reports increased sales for June 2011 but also reveals the sales figures for the first six months of the year. In both cases, the German manufacturer claims that the figures significantly improved with the current Cayenne as the best seller model in the range.

Porsche

The German SUV has been manufactured in 4,994 units last month while the first half of the year brought doubled sales comparing to last year with 30,055 vehicles. The next three models with good sales figures were Panamera with 2,318 units in June, a 14,1% increase, the current 911 with 2,015 vehicles and the Boxster/Cayman with 6,5% increase which means 1,350 cars.

We managed to increase our deliveries significantly again in June. This is accompanied by better-than-expected sales figures. The significant increase in new vehicle orders, especially for our front-engined sports cars, Cayenne and Panamera, also gives grounds for anticipating good sales figures in the coming months,” says Bernhard Maier, Porsche AG Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing.

If we compare the last month with the same one of the last year, the German company saw an increase of 29,5% with a total of 10,667 units sold. The first six months of 2011 brought sales figures of 60,659, a 36,8% improvements over the same period of the last year.

Porsche

In terms of most profitable market, China proved to be the leader with figures up to four times bigger to 2,423 units in June 2011. The Russian market also returned a 63,6% improvements while the Americans bought with 18.9% more vehicles compared to June 2010. On the other hand, the German market has maintained the same level with 1,344 units sold, very close to the figures of June 2010. However, there were some countries with no sales increase, markets such as Great Britain, the Netherlands or Austria registering a 6,5% decline in sales.

“Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart again delivered significantly more cars to customers worldwide in June 2011. Deliveries increased by 29.5 per cent compared with the same month the year before to reach 10,677 vehicles. The sports car manufacturer delivered a total of 60,659 new vehicles in the first half of the year, 36.8 per cent more than from January to June the year before,” concludes Porsche.

Ram faces a recall of nearly a quarter million pickups

Sizable recalls have been missing for a while but the fairy tale is now met with a less than happy ending.

Chrysler’s recently restructured and independence gaining Ram pickup brand will soon start calling back nearly a quarter million pickups over some pretty serious concerns.

2010 Ram 3500 HD pickup

Affected models include the 2008 Ram 1500, 2003-2011 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks all of which have pretty much the same issue with the steering.

Correction; all of the Ram pickups mentioned earlier may have the same issue with the steering. A defective left tie rod ball stud can fracture and that could lead to some pretty serious problems.

If one is caught operating the steering at low speeds in one of these vehicles there’s a serious chance that the defective component fails, causing a lack of steering to the left hand front wheel.

You don’t have to work for the NHTSA or be an acclaimed engineer to figure out what might happen if you lose steering on one of the wheels of a car.

That won’t be at all easier to deal with when confronting a loaded pickup truck, possibly on a loose surface. Ram clearly had to take action, especially considering how dangerous the issue may be.

The end result is that Ram is recalling all the aforementioned models built between 2003 and 2011 with unit numbers reaching a figure of precisely 242.780.

A Chrysler spokesman by the name of Vince Muniga came forward on behalf of the Ram brand and he said that the recall was initiated after a few incidents had occurred.

Sadly, with these incidents along came a minor injury. The sunny side of the story is that no harm on top of that happened as a direct result of Ram pickups or their possibly failing steering.

Ram dealers will begin calling in owners (unfortunately no date was announced for the action) and perform a full inspection on the steering of these pickups.

Until Ram sets up a schedule, together with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration they’ve made a special phone number available to users for further information.

As per necessary situations the tie rods will have been replaced. Regardless or not of the replacement, Ram will perform a front end to e alignment.

Naturally, all operations done by Ram or Chrysler dealers in preparation for this recall will be done free of any charges to the pickup owners.

We’ve seen it countless times before. Whenever a car company wants their products to feel posh they look up a luxury accessories maker for a set of glove compartment fittings, seat covers or hand luggage to go along with their limited / special edition.

In the case of Mini and Tumi, the collaboration came to be the other way round. It was the luggage making company that decided to do up one of the car maker’s products.

That one product Tumi blew their magic wind is the Mini Clubman. Actually, it was quite a strong wind because in the end two units of the Mini Clubman were engulfed by it.

Each of the two Mini (more or less) estates gets a customization job that draws inspiration from the Tumi set of special “bags” and they actually look very interesting.

The exterior paint finish the two Mini Clubmans received reminds us of what Tumi products are like to look at which is odd. Tumi’s products tend to be quite dignified whereas the Mini brand is more about fun and being quirky.

Despite to somewhat opposing design concepts the overall exterior aspect of the Tumi Mini Clubman units is astonishing, who could deny anything to joy of orange tires?

Where these two creations really feel special outside, the interior really is a work of art. It’s the interior of these Minis that’s covered in all the soft and luxurious feeling of Tumi materials, with incredible stitching and enough branding to cover a new car entirely.
