Jeep launches JK8 Independence package

Those of you who were hoping for Jeep to “make a pickup already” will be quite pleased by the following few paragraphs.

Jeep didn’t exactly make a new pickup entirely but they do offer a special kit that can make your current Wrangler look and feel like one.

Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence

Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence

It’s based on the already known Jeep JK8 Independence Concept and it comes at quite a decent cost and it’s even the sort of conversion that capable people can do themselves.

If you chose to go for a pickup version of your Jeep Wrangler, it will set you back $5.499 to just get the parts together from the dealer.

In return, you will get an incredibly large wooden box from Chrysler which includes a steel bed, inner bed cover, an outer bed sides, sport bar extensions, a fiberglass half-top, a bulkhead and a whole lot of small little pieces that make the big ones stick together.

Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence

Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence

What I find particularly interesting about this kit is that it uses a four door Jeep Wrangler as a base in order to give you a two door Jeep pickup. The ways of the JK8 Independence pack are a bit weird to say the least.

All things considered the base Wrangler Unlimited will set you back $25.545, there’s now way you can get a Jeep Pickup, be it through the JK8 Independence pack conversion, for less than $31.044.

This is considering how you stuff yourself to live with the basic standard car and you also need to do all conversion work yourself, in order to keep dealer time costs to a minimum.

Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence

Speaking of minimums, if you’re quite the capable chap Chrysler claims that you can put together the JK8 Independence pack in just under a full weekend’s work.

We’re not sure about the painting process of the new panels but apparently Jeep JK8 Independence pack comes with everything ready-prepped for such a procedure.

Once it is complete, you get a pickup of mid-size proportions but one that isn’t exactly a pickup. Even at a time where technology moved on so far few such machines can tackle the same sort of terrain the Jeep JK8 Independence can and there’s one more thing about its appeal.

Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence

A Jeep pickup truck is naturally cool, but seeing how Chrysler actually made the kit available just so that enthusiasts making requests for such a car would get their own way. That makes the JK8 Independence package so much more than cool.

Ferrari against production of the new Lancia Stratos

For several years we’ve heard rumors, we’ve seen the real thing and eventually we saw a price tag and a hope of a limited series production of 40 units.

New Lancia Stratos

New Lancia Stratos

Things were going pretty well for Pininfarina, Mr. Michael Stoscheck and the new Lancia Stratos. Just as they were inching towards the end where profit was to be found, Ferrari got in the way.

According to some very recent reports, something ticked off the infamous Italian stallion and Ferrari does not wish to see production of this great heritage car take place.

You might think so what’s the problem? It’s not like everybody agrees with new supercars being built. The genuine problem here is that a denial of the New Lancia Stratos from Ferrari is awfully important.

New Lancia Stratos

New Lancia Stratos

One of the problems would be how they denied the production of Lancia Stratos with Ferrari suppliers. Since underneath the new Stratos most of the components come from the Ferrari 430 that is a serious mater.

The weird thing about the Ferrari components and suppliers being put off by the very popular brand is how even if they are convinced to still aid production those would find themselves seeing another problem.

That would be how Pininfarina, the design house that took care of coming up with the new design for the Stratos, tested it and eventually built the car cares greatly for their collaboration with Ferrari.

New Lancia Stratos

New Lancia Stratos

This means that Pininfarina will not be making the car if Ferrari disapproves just as they’ve been telling the company that does the building and the first owner Michael Stoscheck.

Ferrari hasn’t given us a reason for why they stand against the building of the new Lancia Stratos but this is a bit of a surprise for pretty much everybody.

We thought that with Ferrari’s CEO getting a ride in the new Stratos and loving it this would never happen.

Whatever the reasons, people would say that as a result of this decision it would mean a lot of work for people to find alternative suppliers and carbon fiber molders to take care of the production.

New Lancia Stratos

New Lancia Stratos

I however doubt that those 40 buyers that are already interested would be happy to lose the Ferrari related heritage of the original Stratos so easily.

Speculation of Lamborghini stepping in seems equally doubtful but I do hope a new Lancia Stratos will end up living once more and as the real deal.

In recognition of Honda's 9th Generation Civic, Tier10 Marketing has developed a "heritage" video, aimed to create a visual experience that best represents the theme: "One Car. A Million Stories."

The Honda Civic has gained notoriety because of its widespread demographic appeal and longevity. Tier10 celebrates this 9th Generation Civic by creating an integrated viral video campaign that explores the evolution of the Civic.

Tier10 Marketing's Creative Director Scott Rodgers explains, "Personifying the Civic by instilling emotion was objective one. Bringing in a human element accomplishes two things: it promotes a generational feel and connects the Civic with it's far-reaching fan-base. Capturing the Civic's evolution in correlation with the various people featured in the video was key in attaining the correct tone."

The video incorporates vintage commercial footage of the 1978 Honda Civic to present-day models. An edit composed of new and old Civics, with a progressive pace, allows for 30+ years of the Honda Civic to be showcased in 90 seconds.

Shot on a Canon 7D, the video taps into a technology being utilized by the likes of The Jay Leno Show, House, and Saturday Night Live. The choice to use DSLR technology was deliberate, speaking to the Civic's universal, grass-roots appeal. DSLR cameras like Canon's 7D and Nikon's D3s has brought high quality video to the masses at an affordable price.

A collaboration with Grammy award-winning Dirty Vegas brought an important emotional element. The video features the song, "Today," a progressive pop composition. There's a delicate bass beat that builds throughout, ultimately helping the story come through. The song lends a sense of nostalgia, a key element needed for the tone of this short video.

The video's Producer and Editor Joseph Olesh adds, "The video should leave the viewer wanting to see more. My experience producing this video has made me a big fan of the Civic. My hope for the video is one that inspires viewers to investigate the Civic's proud history and even take a test drive of their own."

Honda Civic customers span the spectrum of automotive drivers. They are high school graduates and college students, families with young children, schoolteachers, and environmentalists. The video pays homage to these Civic owners, young and old. See http://www.facebook.com/newcivic for more information.
