Toyota is adamant that their infamous Prius hybrid motorcar will considerably outperform something this year.
Don’t get locked in at the edge of your seat because the 2011 Toyota Prius isn’t getting enhanced performance in any way shape or form.
What the Prius will actually top is the 2010 sales figures it had. If this turns out to be as predicted Japan will have amazed us once more.
2010 was a pretty good sales year for car in general let alone hybrids so Toyota’s ambitious prediction is impressive.
The complete shock of this announcement is brought by how the great tragedy that hit Japan earlier in the year and which lead to a production stoppage.
The outcome of such a troublesome period at the plant lead to Toyota dealers rarely having more than one day’s supply of Prius hybrids ever since March.
With that in mind, you should know that at all times the Prius’ sales were so good that the hybrid model would retain its place as Toyota’s third best selling car.
Another important success for Toyota’s Prius this year was recorded in how a massive milestone was achieved from hitting the 3 millionth unit ever was sold.
Even though it took one of the biggest hits of any of the markets the Toyota Prius is sold in this year, the U.S. is still the biggest selling place for the hybrid, covering nearly 50% of the total production.
A drop in sales reached as much as 61% one of these months and still Toyota is aiming to get past the 2010's 140.928 Prius cars shifted.
Interestingly enough, while we’ve been praising Toyota’s ambition with the 2011 sales figure, it is actually a fall back of what they were aiming with.
Considering growing sales from the previous years and after the first couple of months of 2011 were even better Toyota was looking upon the year as a new record making.
The original hope was that the Toyota Prius would sell better in 2011 than it did in 2007 when a considerable amount of 181.221 units were shifted by the Japanese.
Never mind, next year is certainly looking promising. With 2011 shaping up nicely, petrol pricing not looking as if they are going to fall soon and the U.S. market as strong as ever Toyota’s Prius will most likely fly out of the showrooms next year.
Provided 2011 is actually, as Toyota claim, going to be an improvement and that the hybrid lineup expands to include the a few new body versions the Prius may end up to have a glorious 2012 sales report.
Rikk 10 Jul, 2011The German specialists from Brabus reveal now an impressive tuning package for the Convertible variant of the current Mercedes E-Class, the other two versions, the coupe and sedan already benefiting from tuning programs developed by the well-known tuning house.
Called 800 E V12 Cabriolet, the latest creation of the Germans comes with impressive performance figures and enhanced aesthetics, namely a complete tuning kit. As its name says, the German model features a 6.3-liter V12 biturbo unit able to produce 800 horsepower and 1,100 Nm of torque electronically limited. Even we talk about the Convertible version, the impressive power amount kick the model from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,7 seconds while the top speed exceeds 370 km/h. The 0 to 200 km/h acceleration is done in 9,9 seconds while the sprint to 300 km/h is possible now in 23,9 seconds.
“First the sedan, then the coupe and now the cabriolet: With the 800-hp (788-bhp) / 588-kW BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo twelve-cylinder high-capacity engine in the body of the open-top Mercedes E-Class BRABUS further expands the legendary E V12 family. In building this supercar the BRABUS engineers drew upon the know-how gained from building numerous E V12 sedans and coupes. Precision work was required to implant the BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine and a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission in the engine bay of the E-Class Cabriolet,” says Brabus.
The German specialists managed to increase the engine displacement from 5,5 to 6,3 liters thanks to a new crankshaft with longer stroke, larger pistons and increased cylinder bore. Of course, there was needed a series of advanced improvements such as a Brabus high-performance limited-slip differential, new cylinder heads, sports camshafts, two exhaust manifolds with integrated larger turbochargers and a quad-pipe stainless steel exhaust system.
The styling package consists of a new lightweight carbon fiber body kit with 19-inch alloy wheels, a lowered suspension, carbon fiber trim at the interior and new sport steering wheel. In terms of pricing, the Brabus 800 E V12 Cabriolet starts at €478,000.
“Sophisticated aerodynamic properties are essential for directional stability and active safety in a car capable of attaining such enormous speeds. The sporty yet elegant BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement components were fine-tuned in the wind tunnel, and like in Formula 1 racing they are made from ultra-light yet high-strength carbon fiber” adds Brabus.
Rikk 10 Jul, 2011Bentley is the sort of company that can’t really update its products often so they need to be very careful about their presences at motor shows.
This is why they won’t be unveiling the convertible version of the newly facelifted Continental GT until the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
It all sounds pretty reasonable on behalf of the British company with the only slight problem I can think of is that fall isn’t the best time of the year to have a launch for an open top car.
With the 2011 Bentley Continental GT getting most changes behind the scenes we expect the new Convertible to bring more of the same.
A slightly redesigned front end with incorporated LEDs in the headlights, a considerably improved interior finish, some added toys and improved performance is basically what you’re paying for.
While Bentley is now keeping relatively quiet about what’s the future Continental GT Convertible to offer, It is almost certain that upon launch we will be told time and time again about the level of craftsmanship that goes into making it.
In truth, the metalwork, paint finishes and luxury accommodations the British company is well known for are probably worth the added “advertising”.
Probably the most important bit of the new launch is the expected tune-up the company’s new V8 engine will be getting by then.
If Bentley is to believe the desire for convertibles to be bought with lesser powerplants, that will be another highlight for the soft top 2012 Bentley Continental GTC.
According to a few of the reports, the bigger, more powerful 6.0 liter twin-turbo W12 engine is also expected to get considerable amounts of tweaking.
Hopefully, none of those modifications would be done to aid the fuel economy, flex-fuel capabilities or any such useless green efforts.
Don’t get me wrong, improved fuel economy, lowered emissions and a general direction towards the green movement is great, just as long as it’s not on a Bentley that’s got twin turbos on an engine that’s big enough to power trains.
As far as we know, it’s that awesome engine that will be developing just over 600 horsepower and around 560 lb-ft of torque.
Having that sort of performance would mean that even the heavy convertible Bentley Continental could get to a top speed of around 200 mph after hitting 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
