That next generation of the Lexus GS is still scheduled for a Pebble Beach release is starting to give us the first few winks to the public.

These teasers come directly from the Japanese company and, as you’d imagine for a pre-show setup, they reveal pretty much nothing about the 2012 Lexus GS but we do get a few words added to the picture release.

So while the images of the upcoming Lexus tell us little or less of a story about the car itself, some snippets of information from the manufacturer, together with some of the rumors out there do a whole lot more than that.

The new release is programmed for August the 18th, less than two weeks from now.

You’d imagine that with a new car this close around the corner Toyota would have their luxury arm unveil more details than this but oh no.

Anyway, the new teaser seems to unveil what looks like a bigger IS with some of the LF-Gh concept’s styling features. That’s probably the least imaginative sort of modifications one can get.

Than again, you wouldn’t expect any more of a limited styling effort from a company the likes of Lexus. I swear, sometimes it’s like their designers strain themselves to create cars that are incredibly dull.

Dull or not, the 2012 Lexus GS has to be quite the machine if its going to put Lexus back on top. After the PR fiasco that was the Toyota unintended acceleration recall the U.S. sales leader lost its crown.

Even after being cleared of any blame on the matter the media coverage was in no way as impressive so it put the company on a great spot, thus making them get to work even harder to get back on top.

And since the 2012 Lexus GS is going to compete with the F10 BMW 5 Series, an incredible car on all accounts and I have to tell you, it’s not going to be very difficult, it’s almost impossible.

Which kind of begs the question, even with the Lexus group vice president and general manager, Mark Templin going around and telling everyone how great dynamically the 2012 Lexus GS is going to perform how will they do it?

The engine list in itself isn’t going to give the Bavarians any shivers since the 2012 Lexus GS is either going to get a 3.5 liter V6 engine, a hybrid drivetrain to go along with it and a diesel powerplant to keep the Europeans happy.

Really, I hope Lexus come up with some sort of mystic interior and a lot of technology, at least enough to keep the 2012 GS in the running.

The Tokyo-based company decided to release the upgrade list for the 2012 Honda Crosstour, modifications which include more standard equipment and as you probably noticed, a small change in the model’s name. To be more precise, Honda decided to name the 2012 model Crosstour, dropping the Accord moniker.

Besides this insignificant details, Honda announced that the engine range remains unchanged even some rumors claimed that a new four-cylinder unit will be available too for the 2012 model year Crosstour. Therefore, you can opt only for the 3.5-liter iVTEC unit able to produce 271 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 345 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm.

The EPA-rated fuel economy of the 2012 Crosstour is 18 mpg city and 27 on highway which leads to a combined fuel consumption of 21 mpg. Honda also plans to keep the already existent trim levels, the EX and EX-L packages to be more precise.

The 2012 Honda Crosstour EX will get two new exterior colors, the Twilight Blue Metallic and Basque Red Pearl, exterior choices which will replace the Glacier Blue Metallic and Tango Red Pearl. Other additional equipment includes Bluetooth and USB connectivity, auto on/off headlights but also a rearview camera.

The second trim level, EX-L to be more precise, will benefits from a four-wheel drive version as well, a variant which will use the Honda Real Time 4WD system. In terms of pricing, the most affordable Crosstour is the 2WD EX coupled to a five-speed automatic gearbox, the starting price spinning around $30,300 without including the $810 destination fee.

On the other hand, the four-wheel drive version of the 2012 Honda Crosstour fitted with the EX-L trim level gets a starting price of $36,540, once again excluding the $81 destination charge.

General Motors has big plans with Buick’s image and portfolio improvement and we find that just a couple of months after the release of the LaCrosse eAssist we’re getting a new fuel sipping model.

While equipped with a similar mild hybrid powertrain as the bigger brother, the 2012 Buick Regal eAssist is expected to go even lighter on the explosive juice since it is smaller and lighter.

The 2012 Buick Regal eAssist promises up to 36 miles per gallon on a highway cruise and as much as 25 miles per gallon which sounds great but then again, it’ doesn’t really go like the GS.

Having a little bit of common sense, I admit it is a very little bit, I will say that I get the point of this car and I really appreciate the new presence Buick is getting itself.

This is why I’m almost impressed with the pricing they’ve been laying down with the 2012 Buick Regal eAssist. According to the Americans it will cost other Americans, oh by the way, only Americans can have it, just 29.530 dollars (on top of which you just add $860 for a destination charge).

That my friends is a deal. You get a nicely finished interior, an even better exterior finish and quite the great set of underpinnings with this hybrid.

We’re talking about a 2.4 liter Ecotec direct-injected four cylinder engine and a next-generation Hydra-Matic 6T40 6-speed automatic transmission and that’s just what’s happening before we get to the eAssist part of the equation.

A 115V lithium-ion battery battery acts as a tank for a 15 kW electric motor, it’s actually aided along by regenerative braking and an amazing Start Stop system which has all sorts of reactions depending on your throttle efforts.

Apparently, when all of this fight for efficiency from Buick is pretty successful. The mathematicians and environmentalists got their minds together and now they claim that the 2012 Buick Regal eAssist will be such a money saver that it will pay for itself in about three and a half years.

Given prices of acquisition that’s pretty similar to what happens in the battle between petrol powered and diesel cars elsewhere.

It seems that the Americans from General Motors are struggling to use every alternative power source, this time announcing that some dealerships in North America are going to get charging stations powered by solar energy. This initiative is part of the Green Zone project, the solar-powered stations following to charge up to 12 cars every day while the remaining electricity will be redirected and will be used in the respective dealerships.

"The Chevrolet Green Zone will provide our U.S. dealers with added flexibility when it comes to charging their vehicles, while also reinforcing GM's commitment to renewable energy projects," said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Chevrolet Marketing and Strategy.

Joe Serra, president of Serra Automotive said that the question is where and how many solar canopies should be installed considering that a single one is able to generate enough electricity for around 4,500 charges annually. The American company also plans to invest over $7,5 million in a company called Sunlogics which is responsible for development and manufacturing solar panels.

Moreover, there is a partnership between the two companies, Sunlogics following to supply and install the panels and the charging stations. According to the official details, General Motors leads the renewable energy segment in automotive manufacturing as it derives 1,4% of its U.S. energy consumption from renewable resources.

They also plan to double the output from the solar systems from 30 megawatts to 60 megawatts by 2015. The American company already has the largest rooftop solar installation mounted at the Zaragoza car assembly plant in Spain. The Detroit-Hamtramck and Baltimore Operations facilities are also on the list to get solar fields and cut the electricity costs.

"Just one of these canopies provides enough renewable energy to power two to three homes per year, or more than 25 percent of a dealership's energy consumption," said Perry. "Collectively, that will be a lot of power we are putting back into the grid."
