The Germans from Opel announced their intentions to introduce a new variant of the current Corsa, the LPG ecoFlex which combines the innovative solutions of the ecoFlex range to obtain optimized fuel economy with a LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) system able to extend driving range and economy.
The new Opel Corsa LPG ecoFlex develops 83 horsepower in LPG mode and 85 horsepower using gasoline. The LPG ecoFlex system incorporates a gasoline and a LPG tank, significantly improving the fuel consumption figures by 40% and offering an extended driving range between 1,100 km and 1,500 km.
This innovative system makes possible running the vehicle on gasoline, LPG or both and improves the CO2 emissions by around 15% which means that the three-door Corsa ecoFlex emits 110 g/km, meeting the Euro 5 requirements. According to the official details, the new Opel Corsa 1.2 LPG ecoFlex is available for order and comes with a full warranty for the additional LPG system.
“Modern LPG engines use all the advantages of selective fuel injection per cylinder. In order to maximize the resulting performance potential, the intake and exhaust valves, as well as all the engine’s valve-seat inserts have been especially hardened in Opel LPG models. Opel engineers thus counteract the greater degree of wear and tear in LPG operation so that extra additives to compensate for the lower lubricity of alternative fuel are absolutely not required. Special service intervals are also not necessary,” state the Germans.
The Germans also announced that more models in the range will benefit from this LPG ecoFlex version in the coming months. From the list we can enumerate Astra, Insignia, Meriva and Zafira Tourer. These models will gradually get this fuel efficient variant with the dual fuel function that extends the operating range. The Germans informed that the LPG system is carefully tested to provide maximum safety in case of accident.
“Opel LPG systems are subject to standard test procedures and inspections that preclude any increased risk of fire. In addition, comprehensive testing and crash tests that meet the company’s particularly strict criteria are conducted. The Opel LPG system is completely installed in collision-protected parts of the car, and has been optimally integrated into the vehicle’s safety structure,” claims Opel.
Rikk 06 Jul, 2011If only few days ago the British people from Land Rover were announcing pricing and availability details for the new Evoque in the U.S., today we are told that the model officially enters the series production at the Halewood plant in the UK. The new Range Rover Evoque received more than 18,000 orders from customers worldwide, therefore, there is a very big chance for the new British model to be a success in terms of sales.
The first car rolled off the assembly line is a five-door white Evoque that has been delivered to the Heritage Motor Center in Gaydon. The new Evoque joined the current Freelander which is built at the same plant in Liverpool, the British manufacturer employing 1,500 people in order to build the new model.
This leads to a total of over 3,000 jobs at the British plant, Land Rover announcing that the new Evoque has a £2 billion export value each year which means an important contribution to the UK economy. According to the official details, Jaguar Land Rover employs around 19,000 people in the UK only, more than 100,000 jobs being secured through the dealer network and supply chain.
Returning to the U.S.-spec Range Rover Evoque, we have to mention that it enters the American market this fall with a starting price of $43,995 for the five-door version while the three-door model costs $44,995. The British model comes with improved fuel consumption figures of 8,4 liters/100 km on highway, EPA estimate.
“The Evoque is an incredibly exciting vehicle that joins a product range which across both of our brands is the strongest we have ever had – and it fits in perfectly,” commented Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer. “The teams that have designed engineered and built the new Evoque, working together with our research and supplier partners, can be immensely proud of their achievement. Worldwide interest in our new car has been exceptional, with 18,000 customer orders received from customers eager to be among the first to own the new Range Rover,” adds Dr Ralf Speth.
Rikk 06 Jul, 2011After being caught rather unprepared yesterday, the British at Aston Martin came through with a full press release on the production of a road going version of their V12 Zagato.
In it, the British company confirms their plan to grant their Nurburgring racing Aston Martin V12 Zagato a limited production run of 150 units, all of which will be ready to run on the roads.
Since they are ready to hit ownership and driving from normal people, there’s going to be a big point to make about the price at which you can do that.
At 150 units being made, it is more exclusive than the Aston Martin One-77 but joyfully though, the price isn’t similarly enormous.
Forget the nearly 2 million dollar price tag of the best Aston Martin made ever made, the rarest modern one comes in at a much more sensible £330.000 or roughly half a million U.S. dollars.
To be fair, I was expecting this sort of pricing and I reckon it is worth the money if you’re in the market for a big and reasonably fast GT car.
If those aspects don’t do it for you, there’s quite a few details about the Aston Martin V12 Zagato that are going to help it sell itself.
The exclusivity was sorted but on top of that we can add the heritage of a partnership between Aston Martin and the famous Zagato design house.
Part of the heritage bonus is to be found in how the looks are incredibly well proportioned and “aston martin-ish”.
Performance oriented freaks will find the most important selling point of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato actually resides in the name.
There’s a monster of a 6.0 liter V12 engine under the bonnet and it can bring 510 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque to the disposal of your right foot.
That’s only the start of the story. Let us remember that while the Aston Martin V12 Zagato did win a “beauty contest” it has a lot of racing components under its pretty body.
We’re not certain on how much of the aerodynamics package will survive as a part of the production version of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato but it’s certainly going to be faster than the DBS.
And if some would say the DBS is faster than some think an Aston Martin should go, the handling and experience of the V12 Zagato will almost certainly be something memorable.
Lupica G. 05 Jul, 2011Despite a sustained period of silence on behalf of the Swedish company things have been tense for them over the last few months.
Happily though, that series of doom & gloom moments has been wiped away by how Saab was able to seal the deal with the Chinese at Pang Da and another company from the same country.
Saab being back on track is a great bit of news, but greater still, the company claims that they will also be making three new models.
As part of the agreement Saab signed with Pang Da and Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Co the Swedish will have to get cracking on and, eventually, build these three new models that are so tentatively called the 9-1, the 9-6X and the 9-7.
We’re not sure what’s the gain from these three new models coming in but it should be interesting to follow. Perhaps it’s part of a plan to make a better business case for themselves so that the Chinese Government as well as the European Investment Bank will approve the deal.
There have been cases before where deals didn’t get the authority agreements and therefore it is probably good business sense to take this route.
On the less bureaucratic side, it’s very important for us to know about these new cars because they all sound very tempting.
A new Saab 9-1 would clearly be an entry level to the brand, possibly related to the revival of the 92 we’ve heard a long time ago about.
If our assumption is accurate, in a few years time, Saab’s 9-1 could be a rival for the BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes A Class.
The second new model that Swedish designers and engineers will have to come up with is called the 9-6X. Given the company’s name designations and the X at the end of it this could most likely be an SUV.
Possibly a bigger brother to the Saab 9-4X it could be a rival for the likes of the Mercedes GL or it could be a seven seater school-run SUV.
The crown jewel of Saab’s new models would definitely be the 9-7. A Saab 9-7 should be the flagship of the company and the most luxurious car the Swedish will end up making.
Let’s not forget that at this level, the most likely competitors are the BMW 7 Series, the Mercedes S Class and the Audi A8 and since neither of them is willing to let go of market share, there’s a difficult life ready for the Saab 9-7 already.
