The current Chevrolet Aveo is going to be replaced by the new Sonic, a model that will be available in two body styles, four-door sedan and five-door hatchback to be more precise. The U.S. debut date for the new Chevrolet Sonic is set for this fall, the sedan version being priced from $14,495 while the five-door hatchback variant starting from $15,395, both prices including the destination charge.
The Orion Assembly Center in Michigan will be the place where the new Chevrolet Sonic will take birth, three trim levels and two engine choices being available for the debut. To be more precise, the American model comes with an entry-level 1.8-liter four-cylinder unit offering 135 horsepower. It comes with a five-speed manual transmission but for extra $1,070 you get a six-speed automatic transmission.
The second unit in the range is a 1.4-liter Ecotec able to produce 138 horsepower which is very close to the output of the naturally aspirated 1.8-liter unit we talked above. The Ecotec engine comes with the LT and LTZ trim packages with an additional cost of $700, the estimated fuel consumption spinning around 5.8 liters/100 km (40 mpg).
As there are not any interesting details on the engine range, we can move on to the trim levels. The standard features of the new Chevrolet Sonic include anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) with rollover sensing, air conditioning, traction control, 10 air bags and power door locks with remote keyless entry.
If you opt for the Sonic LT which starts at $15,695 for the sedan and $16,495 for the hatchback variant, you will get several new features such as power, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, cruise control, fog lamps, new 17-inch alloy wheels but also a six-speaker premium sound system with CD player. There are still no details about the third and also the most generous trim level (LTZ) but expect to get few extra features over the LT package.
"Sonic shares the spirit of Chevrolets like the Corvette by delivering athletic and agile performance," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "Today’s customers have high expectations for small cars. Sonic comes with an unexpected level of standard equipment so that every customer will have comforts and amenities they desire."
