Suzuki officially released details on a sportier version of the current Swift, a model which is scheduled to make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show, next month. Currently, the Japanese company released only an image of the new Swift Sport but fortunately we have some details for the supermini-class vehicle.

“The new Swift Sport is a refined sport compact resulting from the first full model change since the launch of the original Swift Sport in 2006. It has a more aggressive and dignified exterior look thanks to a low-slung form that gives a sense of stability and tension, and a big front grille that evokes a sporty performance feel,” says Suzuki.

In terms of styling tweaks, the new Swift Sport gets some influence from the Swift S-Concept revealed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. From the list we can note the revised front bumper, side skirts, new alloy wheels and a honeycomb front grille.

The Japanese model is 3,8 meters long, 1,6 meters wide, 1,5 meters tall and has a wheelbase of 2,4 meters. Under the bonnet, the new Suzuki Swift Sport gets a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit able to deliver 135 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque. The maximum horsepower amount is available from 6,900 rpm while the maximum torque from 4,400 rpm.

The sporty model comes together with a new six-speed manual gearbox which transfers the power to the front axle. According to the official details, the new Swift Sport gets more than a powerful engine, it benefits from a retuned rear suspension and new struts with internal rebound springs.

The safety is also assured by the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) system, seven airbags including curtain and driver’s knee airbags but also a lighter and stiffer absorbing body. “The engine is mated to a specially developed six-speed manual transmission, resulting in performance that is both exciting and environmentally responsible,” concludes Suzuki.
